Hi Maxine, did you create the beautiful art? How did the Vimala alphabet manage to make its way onto the image?? It’s beautiful!
Hi Lorien – Elsie Archer, the artist who did the illustrations for Leaf, was able to paint the picture I had been carrying around in my head for 20-odd years. I was thrilled with how beautifully it turned out. And Vimala has a font available for purchase. I used it for the text in Leaf. The first edition was an ordinary font, which sat on the page in a very unsatisfactory way so I followed my heart and used Vimala’s font for the second edition. Most people love it. The only dissenters are a smattering of booksellers or librarians/teachers who don’t think it’s appropriate to use handwriting in a children’s book. I consider Leaf a cuddle-up-and-read gift book for all ages. I imagine little ones being read to by adults they love so the script font is not a problem. Besides, I’m the creator and I can do what I want! I love the thought of Vimala’s soulful letters working their gentle magic on everyone who reads the book.
You are just so wonderful Maxine. That is all I have to say. ❤ 🙂 ❤
And you are just so sweet, Lorien.
